Brown Corpus 1961 / POS-CQP

Use simple keyword search for raw text, or CQP syntax for BlackLab KWIC search.

Simple Search

Whole words by default: cause does not match because. Regex mode uses your expression, e.g. \bcause\b for a whole word.

CQP Syntax

Every level is optional. Use no sorting or 1–3 levels. Select Not used to skip a level; otherwise enter a position (1–99). Example: L2 → R1; 1 is adjacent to the hit.

How to Read CQP and POS Tags

CQP uses brackets for token constraints. word is the surface form, lemma is the base form, and pos is the part-of-speech tag; regular expressions can combine conditions.

Examples: [pos="NN.*"] finds nouns, [lemma="develop"] finds the lemma develop, and [word="data" & pos="NN.*"] combines word and POS constraints.
